That's a Big Rock!

That's a Big Rock!. The absolute coolest thing about Rio De Janerio was the build up of the city between all these crazy mountains. This one was breath-taking at sunset, as the sun just hit the wall of buildings and the mountains, and it reflected perfectly in the lagoon below it. What is crazy is I think the cement pillars in the mountain are there to prevent the rocks at the top from falling down. I wonder what building insurance goes for under that thing? Caught in the Fly Trap. As I mentioned earlier, the street art really got to me in Rio. So colourful, and awesome. I actually saw a video on the World Cup, that featured all the other talents that Brazil has created, and one was this street art. They pay people to do this stuff to prevent tagging. Amazing. ELESHBCGK. I'm not sure what this means, but it caught my eye, I had to take a panoramic to fit it in! The colour explosion on the wall art in Brazil is truely amazing. I wish I could have fit in more, and I wish that white car wasn't parked illegally, but hey, it's Brazil. :) View the larger version on Flickr

The Blue Monster. Another graffiti shot. Loved the art work in Rio De Janeiro. the colours were explosive, and since the walls were pretty big, the graffiti was larger than life. This is my friend checking out some of the wall, I decided to include him in the shot to show the scale. I also like how he's not looking directly at the camera. What is he looking at? the cars coming and me about to get hit? the wall? waiting for a friend... hard to say, I may have had a few drinks. ;) View the larger version on Flickr

Washing the City Away. I'm not sure how many photos I took while swimming in Rio, most of them didn't turn out, since I was mostly trying to just breath and stay closer to shore ( there was a slight undertow). This one is blurry as they come, but I really like how it turned out all the same. The wave crashing above the buildings, the bubble patterns on the wave. Rock on the Maracana!. Recently in Brazil, I had the pleasure of going to a number of World Cup games, two of which at the Maracana in Rio, Brazil. This particular shot was taken at the Columbia/Uraguay game where Columbia beat Uraguay 1-0. But at the time we didn't know that, the players are just taking teh pitch. Fly By Seattle. Cursing myself for only having my iPhone when I took Alaska Air (Horizon Air) back to Victoria from Seattle the other day... it was a beautiful day and we buzzed the city. It's no float plane buzz, but it was a different perspective for sure. Loved this shot, just wish I had a better camera with me. View the larger version on Flickr

Good bye Victoria!. Another float plane shot today, I snapped this earlier in the week when I flew out of Victoria on a glorious sunny day! Looking at this reminded me heavily of the 10K I ran down that road just the day before... oh, no, wait, my back and sore muscles as I sat in a cramped float plane reminded me of that, but hey, I ran that road! Stairway to .... Walking around Dublin Ireland, there was so much interesting detail in the steps and pathways. This one path that caught my attention and when I checked it out, it was less than interesting (a school field) but the path itself left intrigue. View the larger version on Flickr

Old, Twisted, but Still Strong by Sean Daniel

This old tree on the Trinity College grounds was standing center of a giant patch of grass. Proud, like it owned hte place. Bold like it knew it belonged. and Strong, remembering what it had survived to get here. I'd love to see this tree in the fall before it dropped its leaves, and I'd love to see it in full bloom. It's strong contrast against the blue sky and deep green grass really caught my eye. View the larger version on Flickr!

Morning of Glory. The main gates to Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland is very impressive. You walk through these castle-like walls and enter into this giant open green space with this spire in the center. In December, the sun is so low in the sky, everything gets that morning light and everything just looks amazing. I was just another lemming walking through the gates to school in the morning. Half Fogged In

Half Fogged In. A few weeks ago when I was walking in the Inner Harbour of Victoria, BC, the fog was just pouring off the Juan De Fuca Straight into the Inner Harbour. Amazingly, there was a slight breeze from the north east, so it was keeping the fog from fully filling the harbour. I'd imagine all flights to Seattle are cancelled, and all flights to Victoria (by float plane of course) would be fine. Just another day in Paradise! View the larger version on Flickr
